I know, this kind of proofs the point, and my unrepentant foolishness. But I'm not entirely sure what to make of this statement.

Sure, many of "our" ideas didn't work, and those that did were twisted into their social opposite. But, which of these makes us into fools?

Many took up the mantle of Casandra and turned out to be factually correct. But there There is nothing more foolish than an I-TOLD-YOU-SO.

And then, again, what is the alternative to being fools or idiots, in the original ancient-Greek sense, ordinary people, rather than functionaries?

To what mighty, well-greased institutional wheel should we have put out shoulder, back then, and to which now?
