*ANNOUNCEMENT*
*DEAF07 Celebrates 25 Years of V2_
*
*Dutch Electronic Art Festival, April 2007
DEAF07 opening: Tuesday April 10, 7:00 p.m., Las Palmas, Rotterdam*
The Dutch Electronic Art Festival (DEAF07) takes place April 10 through
29, 2007, in Rotterdam. One of the most important international art and
media technology festivals, DEAF is organized every two years by V2_,
Institute for the Unstable Media. V2_ turns 25 this year and will
celebrate its anniversary during DEAF07 with a smashing night of music
and performances at Staal in Rotterdam on Saturday, April 14.
*25 Years of V2_*
Over the past quarter century, V2_ has evolved into an international
organization that brings together artists, scientists, media activists
and hackers for research and experimentation. DEAF07 will showcase a
number of media (technology) and art highlights; a large exhibition of
interactive art will act as the festivalâs focal point. Part of the
program will be devoted to the network of contacts in China and the rest
of Asia which V2_ has built in recent years. Young Chinese artists,
curators and other key art-world players will play an active part in the
festival. Alongside V2_âs anniversary, DEAF07 will offer an extensive
program of concerts, performances, seminars, workshops and a symposium.
*
Mouse on Mars and Ryoji Ikeda*
On 14 April V2_ celebrates its 25th birthday with an exceptionally
dynamic night. A surprising lineup of groundbreaking artists who have
bridged new media, performance, image and sound in the past 25 years
will perform. Along with Staalplaat Soundsystemâs âvinyl killersâ, Edwin
van der Heideâs laser performances and appearances by Maurice Benayoun
and Jean-Baptiste BarriÃre, V2_ will bring you Germanyâs Mouse on Mars
and Ryoji Ikeda, Japanâs best-known composer of electronic music.
DEAF07âs exhibition will be held at the new cultural center Las
Palmas/LPII and at Pakhuismeesteren, both in Rotterdamâs Kop van Zuid.
Other DEAF locations include V2_, the NAi, the Museum Boijmans Van
Beuningen, the ro theater, Staal and Arminius.
